The Former President's Regime of Retribution and Reward

Donald Trump's voracious appetite for revenge has swiftly evolved into a structured apparatus. Over the twelve months, the chief executive's anger and whims have adopted the form of official policies in a manner reminiscent to past repressive governments. Federal personnel who resist his demands are summarily fired and succeeded by loyalists. Opposing figures who challenge him encounter indictment, court proceedings and penalties. Critics have been labeled under administration orders as “unpatriotic”, “opposed to religious values” and “opposing economic freedom”, and threatened with legal action as “terrorists”.

Federal Agencies Restructured

All situation involving targeting of critics and protection for loyalists demonstrates its own particular features. Yet, regardless of their specific form, they embody examples of what has emerged as a calculated technique. Those events are not isolated. The administration's cleansing of Department of Justice attorneys and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials, alongside his installation of loyalists in key positions, started rapidly, quickly developed a consistency, and has now been formed into a system. DoJ and the law enforcement agency have been restructured into political organizations under the president's explicit direction to execute his demands. Wrongdoing has been rendered routine. This is the retribution system.

Leadership is preoccupied with penalizing the leader's perceived adversaries than they are with defending our national security.

Internal the Apparatus

The foundation of this system has been revealed in the lawsuit of three previous top law enforcement agents lodged in September in the judicial system in the capital against agency head an administration figure and top lawyer a key figure for wrongful dismissal in “a initiative of retribution against them for what administration figures judged to be a refusal to show sufficient political loyalty”. According to the filing that a former acting director, the ex- interim leader, describes a discussion in which Patel “publicly confessed the impropriety of his actions”.

He had tried to defend agency personnel from being dismissed, the filing alleges. He advised him that “they” – interpreted by Driscoll to be the White House and justice department – had instructed him to dismiss anyone who they determined as having participated in a legal probe against him. The document continues: “Patel explained that he had to terminate the personnel his superiors told him to remove, because his chance to retain his own role depended on the removal of the agents who worked on cases involving the leader. The director noted that there was no option he or him could do to prevent these or any other firings, because ‘the FBI sought to put the chief in detention and he hasn't forgotten it.’” When the official informed him he was disregarding the agency's own policies, he allegedly said “he recognized that and he knew the essence of the swift terminations were likely illegal”.

Widespread Consequences

After the director's reported admission to Driscoll, the justice department and the FBI have been dismantled and repurposed for his system of punishment. Six of the bureau's senior executives were fired or forced out in the initial period of the government. Approximately thousands of legal professionals at DoJ have agreed to a “deferred resignation program”. A minimum of several DoJ lawyers, among them those in the Manhattan division, quit in dissent over what they viewed as ideological pressure in abandoning the legal action against the city leader, a political figure, in exchange for his cooperation with his Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests of immigrants. The public integrity section of the justice department, which oversees misconduct investigations, has been diminished to a handful of lawyers. The equality section has been devastated: seventy percent of its employees has resigned. 33% of executives at the justice department have resigned. The section upholding ecological regulations has seen departures of half its management.

Favors and Punishments

Regarding the mayor's situation, the acting US attorney for the NY office, Danielle Sassoon, quit in objection against what she characterized as the “trade-off”. Tom Homan, the president's “immigration leader,” was present as the agent with him on Fox News to announce: “Should he fail to deliver, I'll reappear in New York City.”. Additionally, another figure, previously the acting deputy attorney general and a past legal representative, who negotiated the agreement, was granted an appellate federal judgeship, a likely stepping stone to the supreme court.

Trump's protection for crimes committed while in government, granted by the extraordinary decision of the GOP-led on the highest court, thus preventing his prosecution over the Capitol riot and maintaining his political viability for the national vote, is the foundation stone on which he depends to shield his supporters. Under these circumstances, he has been empowered to authorize misconduct. The consequence of the court judgment infuses his presidency and the Republican Party thoroughly. The legal case has escalated. As Richard Nixon's White House counsel the figure remarked about the Watergate
