Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.

The ex-president was found guilty of plotting a government overthrow in last fall and sentenced more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he remained under confinement pending legal challenges.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after fresh information came to light.

This included attempting to break his electronic bracelet and a invitation to a public vigil that could enable a chance to flee".

Legal Document Reveals Flight Fears

In a paperwork permitting the custody, the judge said information from the unit overseeing Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the electronic ankle bracelet to secure accomplishment in his escape.

This, it said, would be assisted by the confusion caused by the demonstration called by his child.

His child, his son Flávio, who holds office as a legislator, called for a assembly of his backers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday night.

His son wrote on digital networks on Friday: Do you plan to struggle for your nation, or observe everything from your smartphone there on your couch? I urge you to battle with us."

He said the vigil would be so followers could offer prayers for his physical condition and for the return of democracy in our country."

Foreign Shelter Risks

Part of Justice Moraes's determination was the chance of Bolsonaro's "relocation to foreign missions near the dwelling, considering that the investigations revealed a background of arranging to request asylum through a embassy office", a declaration said.

The legal document highlights that the United States embassy in the national capital, the capital city, is located around approximately 13 kilometers from his dwelling.

Worldwide Consequences

His judicial problems have drawn the ire of fellow right-wing populist American leader Donald Trump, prompting him to impose a 50% tariff on imports of Brazilian goods.

The former president is being held in a national police facility in Brazil's capital city and will undergo a custody hearing on the following day.

Recent Judicial Appeals

It was only on Friday that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the High Court to allow him to fulfill his full incarceration period under house arrest, with digital surveillance.

They also asked that he be allowed to depart his residence for healthcare, saying he needed ongoing care for pulmonary infections and other illnesses.

Details of Guilty Verdict

Bolsonaro was determined responsible of heading a plot aimed at retaining his authority after he was defeated in the 2022 election to his left-wing rival, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

High Court judges said that he was aware of a plan which involved plans to assassinate his opponent and his vice-presidential running mate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to arrest and execute Alexandre de Moraes - the High Court judge who has been presiding over his judicial proceedings.

The plot was prevented because it couldn't obtain the endorsement of the military leaders. The current president was took office without problem on January 1st, 2023.

But a seven days after, on the eighth of January, numerous Bolsonaro supporters stormed and vandalised official structures in the national capital, Brasília.

The security forces stepped in and around 1,500 people were detained.

The justices found that the rioters had been incited by him whose strategy, they said, was for the Brazilian military to intervene, restore order and reinstate his authority.

At the moment, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the decades-long sentence "absurdly excessive.

He was also banned from running for public office until the year 2060 - a decade minus two years after the completion of his term.

The former president called the legal proceedings a political persecution and said it was aimed at blocking him competing in the next presidential race.
